Exxon Returns Baytown, Texas, Refinery to Normal Operations
By Aaron ClarkJan. 8, 2009 (Bloomberg) — Exxon Mobil Corp., the worlds largest oil company, said the Baytown, Texas refinery returned to normal operations after two boilers tripped offline on fluid catalytic cracker 3.
Both boilers have been restarted and we are back to operating normally, said Russ Roberts, a spokesman for the refinery, in an e-mail.
Boilers B and C tripped offline while boiler A was down for maintenance, a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality showed. There was no impact on production, the company said in the filing.
Emissions related to the upset began at 4:16 a.m. yesterday and an estimated 245,110 pounds of carbon monoxide was released, according to the filing.
Exxons Baytown refinery, the largest in the U.S., has the capacity to process 590,500 barrels of oil a day.
