  How long do most cokers heat the empty Coke drums before switching into from a full drum?
  What is industry practice?
  What is the shortest time I can use for heat up?

  I depends on your cycle time. If you are running on a 12 hr cycle, you have 2.5 hours to warm-up the empty drum.
  
  Drum cooling and warm-up time has a big effect on drum stresses.
