Two workers have been killed and 6 critically injured when a fire broke out at the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Refinery in Gujarat, India. There was no hit to the production, the company said in a statement on Thursday, 24 November.

RIL was in the midst of a 5 week CatCracker shutdown. The shutdown was aimed to provide an opportunity to carry out a revamp job in one of the polypropylene units. “All four crude distillation units along with other major secondary processing units are expected to operate at normal throughput,” RIL had said in an October 18 filing.

RIL has two refineries: one is in the domestic tariff area (DTA) with a 660,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity. The other is in the special economic zone (SEZ) with 540,000 bpd. The fire which was in the DTA broke out due to a gas leak.
