Valero Completes Repairs on Coker Drums at Port Arthur Refinery
      2008-05-09 11:18 (New York)

      By Barbara Powell
May 9 (Bloomberg) — Valero Energy Corp., the largest U.S.
refiner, completed repairing the six coker drums on the delayed
coker unit at its Port Arthur
      , Texas, refinery.
The coker is running at full rates of 100,000 barrels of
      crude oil daily
, Valero spokesman Bill Day said in an interview.
The refinery ran at reduced rates after the repairs began in
      February.
Valero fixed cracks in the drums, which occurred because
the refinery increased the coker run rates to make more
      distillate fuels.
The San Antonio-based refiner will install new
drums in 2009 or 2010 and add an additional delayed coker.
The Port Arthur refinery, the largest of Valero’s 17
plants, is capable of processing 325,000 barrels of crude a day,
      according to Valero.

Here is update on Valero Pt Arthur Coke Drum repairs & status of eventual coke drum replacements and the addition of a new coking unit 2009-10. (Like Valero – Both Motiva & Total Refineries are also planning expansions & coker additions at Port Arthur in the 2009-2011 time frame.)

Also in Bloomberg news – Valero completed repairs (52 days – loss 50MBD capacity) on Quebec Refinery (smaller of two) crude unit & is moving to full rates (215 MBD).

      Regards

Something in here isn’t adding up for me on Valero new 6 drum replacement & current crack repairs. I thought Valero HAD already replaced at least  2-4 of the Pt Arthur 6 drums (ie: post on Mangiarotti confirmed they did 4  new Valero drums => 2 for Pt Arthur & 2 for St Charles)?
And I had some Valero pictures of PT Arthur placing drums in 2007?  Did those drums already crack or was it ones that were not replaced & now they are going replace all 6?

RE: Valero Pt Arthur 6 drum replacement.  Various feedback comments indicate the previous pictures & coke drum work was crack repairs & that the new 6 drums (including 2 from Mangiarotti) will be replaced and new coking unit added as indicated in news article.
