BP restarts unit at Whiting refinery

(Reuters) – BP has restarted the last of three crude units at its 410,000 barrel per day Whiting, Indiana refinery, a source familiar with refinery operations said Thursday.
The giant Whiting refinery was damaged in a fire a year ago and has been operating at reduced rates ever since. Company officials estimated that the refinery would be back to full rates by the second quarter of 2008.
The latest crude unit to be restarted, which has a capacity of 95,000 bpd, was restarted a few weeks ago, the source said. Two other crude units at the refinery, one with a 75,000 bpd capacity and the other with a 235,000 bpd capacity, have already been restarted, the source said.
