      BEST PRACTICES
      –          Quench Cycles/Hot Spots
      Totalizers for quench water and sour water
      –          Furnace Issues
      Burner cleaning/maintenance
                      PM programs
                      Operations Flexibility

      Velocity Steam
                      Heater Inlet PI is a good indicator
                      Charts with valve position and flow rates
      START UP
      –          Make sure the system is dry
      –          Air Free
      –          Take it slow
      –          Start antifoam right away
      –          Start on minute rate
      –          Down fill 1[sup]st[/sup] drum all the way
      –          Test Interlocks
      –          Make sure all electrical equipment is on
      –          Test deluge
       
      SWITCH VALVES
      –          System purge is important
      Lack of steam purge can cause reliability issues with valves
                      N2 for back up purge
      HCGO Properties
      –          Increasing recycle with lower C.R
      –          Quench Oil
      Time/Temp
      HCGO/ LCGO/ Slop
                      Need enough to keep O.H lines wet to prevent fouling
      –          Wash Section – too much pressure can make wash nozzles not work.
      ANTIFOAM
      600,000 cc
      –          Some have antifoam on level control
      –          Carrier
      LCGO/HCGO
      Ratio Controller
      –          Injection Points
      Top is best
      –          Foamovers
      Good level indication
      VELOCITY STEAM (Best Practices)
      –          Looking at heater inlet PIs for steam rates
      –          Charts with valve position and flow rates
      –          If flow meters work use them
      LOTO FOR CONTRACT CUTTING
      Lock out before it’s handed over to contractors.  Contractors apply locks too.
      FURNACE ISSUES (Best Practices)
      –          Rate of rise on skin Tis.
      –          Burner Cleaning

      • Quarterly inspection/ cleaning

      –          Spalling

      • Some use steam without shocking
      • Some use BFW.  Could contain chemicals though
      • Spall as much as possible until you have to come down

      QUENCH CYCLES/ HOTSPOTS (Best Practices)
      –          How much sour water make
      –          Totalizer for water
      –          ½ hour soak helps
      –          Back pressure on drums to mitigate hot spots
      –          Drain and re-quench if you have a hot drum
       
       
      SLURRY FEED (FCC)
      –          Put to quench, can cause problems

      • Coke fines plugging filters
      • Decant coming in cold

      –          Best Practice – Bring in with Feed.
