Shortly after four Sunday afternoon a fire broke out in the tier two unit on the north side of  CITGO refinery.
Spokesperson, Shawn Trahan tells 7News the unit produces sulfur gas, a non-hazardous material, and that’s what was burning into the atmosphere. Highway 108, near the plants entrance, was blocked to traffic as a precaution.
Monitoring was conducted to ensure no off-site impact. Residents say they heard some type of explosion and saw thick black clouds of smoke fill the air.
Trahan says all employees have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported.
