Valero Port Arthur reduces rates on coker, cracker snags
NEW YORK, Oct 12 (Reuters) – Valero Energy Corp. reduced the crude input at its Port Arthur, Texas, refinery late Wednesday following problems with a coker and hydrocracker, traders said on Thursday.Traders were unsure how long the reduction would last. The refinery has a throughput capacity of 295,000 barrels per day with 105,000 bpd of coking capacity and 45,000 bpd hydrocracking capacity.
In a filing with state environmental regulators, the company said on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at about 9:00 pm local time, an upset occurred in Area 3.
“Operations lost the ability to pump out the bottoms from the fractionator on the Delayed Coking Unit and the charge filters began to plug on the Hydrocracker Unit,” said the filing with the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality.
