August 17 – ConocoPhillips began restarting the gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit Wednesday evening at its 233,000 barrel per day refinery in Sweeny, Texas, according to a filing with state environmental regulators. In a filing with the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, the company said a problem with the blowers in the electrostatic precipitator caused an upset which resulted in a spike in opacity. The incident occurred as ConocoPhillips was bringing back the unit after a turnaround.
