ConocoPhillips Reports Maintenance at Sweeny, Texas Refinery
      2008-02-21 02:11 (New York)

      By Christian Schmollinger
           Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) — ConocoPhillips, the second-largest
U.S. refiner, reported it will carry out maintenance on an
exhaust stack used in operating a gasoline-making unit at its
      refinery in Sweeny, Texas.
The company will operate the mechanical rappers of its
electrostatic precipitators at the Unit 3 regenerator flue gas
stack starting at 8 a.m. local time today until 1 p.m., it said
in a report to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The
rapping will cause the release of excess particulate matter
      including smoke and vapor.
Electrostatic precipitators are devices that strip
particulate matter from gases. The regenerator collects catalysts
used in the fluidized catalytic cracking unit at the refinery for
recycling. The cracking unit processes vacuum gasoil into
      gasoline or lighter oil products.
The Sweeny refinery can process 247,000 barrels of oil a day,
according to the U.S. Energy Department.
