Exxon Restarts Baytown Fluid Catalytic Cracker Boiler (Update1)
2008-04-14 06:07 (New York)     By Sophie Tan
April 14, 2008 (Bloomberg) — Exxon Mobil Corp. is restarting the
boiler of a gasoline-making unit at the largest U.S. refinery
      after planned maintenance.
The process of restarting the fluid catalytic cracker
facility at Exxon’s Baytown, Texas refinery began yesterday and
will be completed on April 15,
      the world’s largest oil company
said in a filing with state environmental regulators.
A fluid catalytic cracker processes vacuum gasoil into
gasoline and improves profitability by increasing the output of
higher-valued light products from lower-cost heavier crude
      grades.
Exxon restarted a crude oil processing unit at the refinery
after two months of maintenance, Russ Roberts, a company
spokesman, said on March 31. The Baytown plant can process
586,000 barrels of crude oil daily, according to the U.S. Energy
      Department.
