What is the best way to cool a drum of coke?
Is it putting the water in at a slow rate with minimal pressure increase on the drum or is it to increase the amount of water increasing the pressure on the drum to force the water into the coke?
It seems to be the best way would be to put water in fast enough to increase the drum pressure 10-15 psig forcing water into the coke.

during cooling we have tried to keep in mind two things, first the good cooling of the coke and the second the integrity of the drum, for months we tried several different cooling ramps cooling in ours units for which we measure the stress generated at the skirt of the drum and we found was a slow down ramp during the first 3 hours and after a higher ramp
sent me an email I can sent you this ramp

      best regards

      Dear Guest,

Please keep in mind that you might not be able to achieve a higher cooling rate in the latter part of the process due to existing equipment limitations.

In a DCU I worked, we installed a third quench pump to achieve this.

WE USE THE FIRST ONE IN TWO OF THE OURS UNIT, AND THE SECOND ONE IN THE OTHER THREE UNIT

      TIME FLOW RAMP
      0 0 GPM/MIN
      5 50 10,00
      60 200 2,73
      120 200 0,00
      150 300 3,33
      180 300 0,00
      210 500 6,67
      270 500 0,00
      300 1300 26,67
      360 1300 0,00

It is suggested to quench water at same pressure in a control program. At the end of quench pressure may increase but as per program and set point of drum pressure reduce the flow of water to control the pressure and

Can you tell that what are the best possible flow rates during water quenching if we have only 270 min or 4.5 hrs ? And what amount of water we required to cool the whole coke drum ?
