Shell’s Wash. coker hit by power blip Tues

Reporting By Erwin Seba; Editing by Marguerita ChoyHOUSTON, March 9, 2012 (Reuters) –The coking unit at Shell Oil Co’s 145,000 barrel per day (bpd) Anacortes, Washington, refinery was hit by a brief power interruption on Tuesday, according to a notice filed with Washington state pollution regulators and released on Friday.
A compressor was shut on the coker, which increases the amount of refinable material from a barrel of crude oil, according to the notice filed with the Northwest Clean Air Agency.
Gasoline prices in the Pacific Northwest have been increasing throughout the week due to a planned overhaul at ConocoPhillips ‘ Washington state refinery.

Here is update on Shell Anacortes Coker Power blip news release.  Shell just returned from Coker & Refinery maint & repair in Nov 2011 (See post 11/13/2011 – also history on coker & anode coke product).

The Shell/Equilon Anacortes/Puget Sound Refinery coker also had power blip 1Q2011 – see post 1/22/2011.

I havent seen any repair or coker revamp news to see if size drums or operational configuration was changed to allow more/heavier slates crude. Since the Anode coke is on razor edge between fuel & anode it could easily become fuel with any coker cycle time or heavier crude slate changes.
      Regards
