Sinclair refinery crews work to restore productionAssociated Press – December 16, 2009 12:35 PM ET
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) – Production still has not been restored at the Sinclair oil refinery in Carbon County, more than a week after the facility was shut down by a power outage.
An external power failure on Dec. 6 interrupted refinery operations and led to a release of hydrogen sulfide gas. According to state and federal records, it was the 14th reportable spill or toxic release at the refinery so far this year.
There have been no reports of injuries or illnesses because of the spills.
Sinclair spokesman Clint Ensign said Tuesday that most steam generation has been restored, and he expects some process units will return to operation sometime this week.
The refinery has a capacity of producing 80,000 barrels a day.
