Total Plans Maintenance for Port Arthur, Texas, Refinery

     July 22, 2008 (Bloomberg) — Total SA, Europe’s largest oil
refiner, said it planned maintenance at its Port Arthur refinery
in Texas today.
     Maintenance must be performed on equipment that “handles
the vapors from tank 926,” according to a filing with state
regulators. The equipment “will be taken out of service and
repairs performed as quickly as possible.”
     The maintenance is planned from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. local
time, according to the report. The plant can process about
240,000 barrels of crude oil a day, according to U.S. Energy
Department data.

Total Port Arthur Restarts 9 units

HOUSTON: Total Petrochemicals USA was restarting nine units at its 232,000 barrel per day (bpd) Port Arthur, Texas, refinery on Sunday, according to a notice filed with state pollution regulators.

The restart of units 804, 805, 810, 819, 822, 823, 824, 825 and 836 began Sunday morning and was expected to take until Thursday morning, according to a notice filed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The units were shut on July 9 for reasons unstated in notices with the commission. On July 10, traders told Reuters one of the units was a reformer and all of the units were taken down because of poor refining margins.
