UPDATE 1-Conoco Rodeo refinery coke pit hit by fireHOUSTON, Nov 3, 2011 (Reuters) –A fire broke out in a coke pit at ConocoPhillips’ 120,200 barrel-per-day (bpd) Rodeo, California, refinery on Thursday morning, according to a notice filed with the Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials office.

The refinery told Contra Costa officials that the refinery’s in-house fire department was able to battle the blaze.

A Conoco representative was not immediately available to discuss refinery operations.

A coke pit is where petroleum coke, a coal substitute made from residual crude oil, is dumped after being produced in delayed coking unit.

Here is update on COP Rodeo Coker pit fire.

Also there is Aug 2011 Clean Air filing by COP for COP SFR project (DIER) throuput increase from 44.5MBD to 48.95MBD crude and 499kmtpy to 536kmtpy petcoke production?

Seems they are woking on some 200 mile P/L between Rodeo & SMaria Refinery/Complex for crude movements & logistics/trucks removing petcoke from Rodeo. There was SFR/Rodeo Shutdown Apr 2011 news item for work thru June – anyone know if some this work is already in place now?

This is not to be confused with 2009 replacement of all 4 of Santa Maria Coke Drums (Two 2 drum systems acting as 4 drum unit)  thruput debottleneck that also allowed lower cycle times & increased sour crude processing)

      Regards
