Refinery Status: Turnaround Work Starts At Exxon’s Torrance Refinery
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Feb 1, 2011
The following table lists unplanned and planned production outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining sources and doesn’t purport to be a comprehensive list.

ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM) said Tuesday that several weeks of scheduled turnaround maintenance got underway earlier in the day at a hydrocracking unit, a saturated gas plant and one of the hydrogen units at its Torrance, California, refinery.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) said Tuesday that its Mandan, N.D., refinery continues to operate at minimally reduced rates following a fire at the plant’s alkylation unit furnace on Jan. 19. No estimate yet on when the alkylation unit will restart and the return to normal operations.
Holly Corp.’s (HOC) Navajo oil refinery in Artesia, N.M., has been operating at 40% of capacity, or 40,000 barrels a day, since a plant-wide power failure on Jan. 26 due to an interruption in power supply from its local utility, the company said in a statement Monday. Return to normal operations expected in “several more days,” the company said on Monday.
ConocoPhillips (COP) said Monday that a leak and fire Sunday at its San Francisco-area oil refinery in Rodeo, Calif., occurred at the plant’s coker unit. The company did not comment on the impact on operations.
Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) said Sunday that a leak of isobutane vapor at it’s oil refinery in Texas City, Texas, on Saturday did not cause any injuries and that the “all clear” was sounded after the leak was stopped, allowing residents to return to their homes after being evacuated. The leak did not impact operations.
Flint Hills Resources confirms brief fire Sunday at east plant FCCU II, but would not say whether the event had an impact on operations.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Friday that its Aruba refinery is nearing planned rates after being offline for roughly 18 months. The company also announced turnaround plans at six of its refineries in the first and second quarters of 2011 on Wednesday.
