Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) — Valero Energy Corp., the largest U.S.
refiner, said maintenance on a coker unit at its Port Arthur,
Texas, refinery is in the beginning stages.
Bill Day, a Valero spokesman, commented on the refinery
repairs in an e-mail.
The maintenance was planned to start in January or February
and take 25 days, Day said earlier. Coker units take the
heaviest components of oil and convert them into lighter
elements for making fuel.
The refinery flared, or burned chemicals into the air, over
the weekend. The flaring, which was related to the gasoline-
producing fluid catalytic cracker, had “no impact on
production,” Day said.
