Great suggestion! I like the idea of installing an H2S monitor at the vent line.

We are riding a Low Line system (gas recovery system) on one coker unit and are riding the Fractiontor OH Accumulator on the other coker unit so we do not flare unless we overpressure the Low Line or Fractionator OH. The main exposure we have for a reverse flow on a bad relief valve is when another Drum overhead vapors are switched to the blowdown system. It is a rare event when we get a reverse flow but never-the-less, it is an exposure. In 36 years, we have only had just a few of these events happen.

That is pretty much the same system we have in place right now with the exception of the automatic drum level control. I was looking to improve on this system. It is difficult for us to set up a reliable auto-controlled antifoam injection system. We have to add antifoam as needed with a flow controller. I want a reliable automatically Drum Level Control system. Currently, the Console Operator has to focus his attention on the Drum Level to inject additional antifoam when it is needed. If we had a level controller that would do this, I think that we could possibly minimize our antifoam usage.

We use regular gate valves without steam purge for the Heater Charge pump isolation.

I don’t know about the nozzle sizing for increasing water pressure. I have heard that there are basically two pattern designs. One design has the final cut pattern angled. I think it is set at about a 10° angle to allow for more of a cut and wash pattern. This is good for sponge coke to softer and shot coke. For harder coke to needle coke, a straight across cut pattern (no angle) is better. [;)]
